Hydroseeding—also known as hydraulic mulch seeding or hydromulching—is a planting technique where a nutrient-rich slurry of seed, water, fertilizer, mulch is sprayed uniformly over prepared soil using specialized equipment. The mulch helps the mixture adhere to the ground, retain moisture, and protect seeds from erosion, while fertilizer supplies the nutrients needed for strong early growth. This method promotes fast and uniform germination—grass often sprouts within a week and is ready to mow in about 3–6 weeks. Hydroseeding is particularly effective for large or sloping areas, offering cost advantages over sod and better results than dry seeding. Post-application, consistent watering is crucial to ensure seed establishment and prevent slurry drying out.
